Personality:
Above Average Intelligence: While he has above average intelligence and has the ability to think outside of the box, it has taken till this expedition for the most for him to learn how to use it.

Impulsive: He has and always will rush into a situation without thinking about it at times. Despite this habit of rushing into situations which often recklessly endanger himself he would never purposely endanger a member of his crew. While he will ask them to do dangerous things at times he will ensure their safety as much as he can.

Disregard of Rules/Laws: A side effect of his childhood is that he doesn't have a good regard for rules or laws and will continually push and break them for his own use. Most of all though he wants to do what he thinks is best for his crew and the Federation even if they might not agree with him at the time.

Wears a mask: A side effect of being raised by Frank is that he's become a very good actor when it comes to hiding what he is truly feeling and giving the impression that he doesn't care what others think of him. Which he doesn't though maybe deep, deep down he does not that he really knows or will ever admit it - if you tell yourself something enough you will come to believe it after all.

Expanded Personality

Jim Kirk is many things including intelligent, passionate and determined but first of all he is pig headed, stubborn and very much a flirt with anything that could be female, not caring what they or others thought. He would sleep with them and if it became too serious he would run the other way, often leaving them hurt and angry with him. He just didn't like commitment and wanted to have fun. At least when it came to relationships. Of course this made some not like him - notably Uhura but that didn't mean he didn't stop trying to catch her attention.

Kirk is highly passionate about his interests, especially the exploration of space, the protection of Earth and revenge against Nero for his father's death. While a part of him understands why George Kirk did what he did, he hates him at the same time as it lead him to be mostly being raised by his Stepfather who he hates with a passion.

Growing up as he did, Jim doesn't have much practice in doing and saying what is right and will therefore just often say what he is thinking which has gotten him into trouble a lot of times. He's also quite good at reading people and pushing just the right buttons to make them crack which is what he did with Spock to get command of the Enterprise.
